holiday cards.. by me!
I can post these now that (almost) everyone has received theirs. Originally, I was only going to make a few and send store-bought ones... but ended up making all of them. And some envelopes too, since I ran out. I can't measure or glue properly, but I can cut straight! Hopefully not many of them got smushed or fell apart too badly.

Also, thanks
deadmantalks,
maidenus, and
ferrell for your cards!

holiday cards
I decided that I am going to do holiday cards this year, because it's been a while. They're going to be handmade and personalized, like the ones I did in 2002.
I've been trying to fill out all the address for cards posts on my friends list, but I think I missed a few. If so, here is my address. You can also send it to the office, since afaik, I'm not going anywhere (far) for the holidays.
Poll #1089249 holiday cards

Your address as it should appear on the envelope (don't assume I know your real name)
Which holiday(s) do you celebrate?
Name some things you like (snow, pink, peas, etc.)
Things I should stay away from (glitter, candy canes, etc.)

mail stuffs
(omg my public entries are getting increasingly boring)
Last week, we got a notice that said to pick up our mail from the post office because our mailbox was full, or they would return to sender. 1) No way that could have been true; we've been getting our mail every day. 2) There's a post office two blocks away, why couldn't it have been at that one instead of the one two miles away?
I went there on Friday, and was handed a lot of mail, a full-mailbox's worth. The only explanation I can think of is that they were holding it because it wouldn't all fit.
I still haven't reported the last missing Netflix. I kinda kept forgetting to, and now it's 2 months later...

foxfirefey. It's funny because I got the same prayer rug chain mail thing some time ago, April 28th according to the gallery.

Steal This Movie! != steal this movie!
I'm sure he congratulated himself and chuckled after he opened the envelope and found that the DVD he had just stolen was aptly titled Steal This Movie!
Oh, the irony.
This makes 4 movies from Netflix that I never received, the 3rd in less than a month that I'm convinced had been stolen out of my locked mailbox.
How many reports in how long of a timeframe before Netflix considers it suspicious and suspends? I haven't reported it yet, for just that reason. Though, waiting longer is probably worse.
If I called them and explained that someone has been stealing my Netflix/mail, would it help? Or does it not matter to them as lost DVDs are still lost DVDs? I wish they had online support so I could email instead.

someone stole our Netflix (!!)
I didn't get the mail when I got home on Thursday; I wanted to get to the bed and lay down as quickly as I could, without interruptions. But I did see the red envelopes poking through the slots; our movies arrived right on time.
But they weren't there when I went back after my nap. They were gone. Gone. The mailbox was empty. And still locked. Supposedly, a few of the mailboxes use the same key, but even without the right key, I don't doubt that it's not hard to break into.
This isn't the first incident either. ( Read more... )

the man from the yellow house
he came from the yellow house across the street, the one that was painted a few years ago when i was away at college. this house was also displayed in the window of the real estate place on webster street earlier this year. i've always noticed this house. maybe because it's the one that lets me know to get off at the next stop. or maybe i just like yellow houses. other than when it was undergoing renovations, i've never seen anyone there. until today.
he came from the yellow house and crossed the street to the bus stop where i and a monet vietnamese woman yapping on her cell phone were waiting. he asked if i knew what time it was, and i pulled my phone out of my pocket to check. 10 o'clock, i tell him, and start pacing back and forth checking down the street in each direction because my powerbook is coming and i saw a fedex truck going the wrong way a minute ago.
i'm a good distance away from him now and he's still talking to me.
"what's your name?" he asks.
"stacee." i tell him while still pacing and checking for signs of the fedex truck.
"where are you from?" he asks, though with the mumbling and passing traffic, it sounded more like "where do you live?"
i blinked and gave him a blank look. he mumbled something that sounded like "china" to me, so i said "yeah, sure, i'm from china." and started to step away again.
but there were more questions.
"how old are you?"
"how old do you think i am?"
he waves his hand in the "somewhere around" motion and takes a stab. "17?"
"21" i tell him, but maybe i shouldn't have since his big goofy grin just grew.
i pretended to look at the bus schedule posted on the sign. he did too.
"do you know if this bus goes to burger king?"
"which one?"
"any," he says, and shows me his coupons.
"yeah." there's a burger king 6 blocks away. there is no way he could not know that. you have to pass it on the way in/out of town.
"where are you going?"
"the dentist."
"oh."
i peek down the street some more. still no bus or fedex truck.
"do you like music?"
"yeah, who doesn't?" i reply blatantly uninterested.
he stops with the questions for a bit, but it wasn't the end.
"do you have a phone number?" he sputters.
"no."
"no?" he tries again.
"no." i firmly restate, even though i knew he had seen my cellphone earlier, and who doesn't have a phone number?
i took a few steps away and this time he didn't follow. the bus came not too long after. i got on and looked out the window to see him walking back to the yellow house.

owwwwwwwwwwwwww ow ow ow ow ow
my toof hurfts. all this candy eating has caught up to me. why couldn't i have gotten cavities 9 months ago, before i turned 21 and thus booted off insurance. i was told 21 meant legal drinking and gambling. there was no mention of no insurance.
i need to find a new dentist. soon. this week is preparing for finals (why is my summer quarter ending 2 weeks after everyone else has just started fall?) and scrambling to get projects done. this week is going to be a major pain, and now there's a major pain in my mouth to accentuate it.
and while i'm whining, i'd also like to announce that since i organized my email, i have been getting spammed through the email forms on my sites. go figure. oddly enough, the normal spam i used to sometimes get has stopped, though i'm probably jinxing myself right now.

my mail has been organized
i thought it was on the list, but i guess not.
when i get my powerbook, the emails stored in my outlook express will be gone. in the meantime, it's all nicely organized now. i have a folder for clients, and subfolders for each one. i have a folder for comments from the site and blog, and also the ones i received when i was doing site reviews. and i have a folder to keep track of my old teachers' email addresses because as my logic goes, it's easier to do it that way than to use the address book feature.
in sorting through my emails, i noticed a lot of them were from people who like my wordpress themes, who download them, and then ask why they don't work in blogger. if people would read, they'd see that 1, it's coded for wordpress, and 2, i take customization requests and can convert the layouts to templates for other blogging programs such as blogger for $5.
i also found an email dated july 3rd that was marked as read, but this is the first time i've seen it. apparently it's been sitting in my inbox all this time and i missed it when i received it. it was from jennifer of once the door closes, who has me linked.
in looking at her blogroll, i noticed the second one under mine: chris glover's blog. i know a chris glover! i get excited when i find that people i know irl have blogs. unfortunately, this is not the same chris glover. too tired to actually read, i have deduced this from the picture i found when i scrolled down.
but yeah. mail organized. eyes tired. sleep now.

gmail
i want to get ihaveanaccount@gmail.com so that i could reply "i have an account at gmail dot com" when someone asks me for my email address, at which point, they would go "huh?" and i'd repeat "ihaveanaccount@gmail.com"
unfortunately, the username ihaveanaccount is already taken. as is anaccount, emailme, spamme, and the one i wanted when i realized you could use periods: dot.dot.dot. so i settled for ihadanaccount@gmail.com, though i still have stac33. with threes. i can't believe someone had already taken stacee.

sold&shipped
the post office is retarded. why is it so expensive to send something? it's especially ridiculous when the shipping is more than the value of what's being shipped. it seems every time i go to the post office, i end up paying 3x what it should be. i've sold 3 books (in brand new condition) on amazon.com, which after taking a large portion for commission, credits me back $1.25 for shipping, which really is nothing when i end up paying $8-$12 per book, at the cheapest option!

???
my cats account is gone, which means 1. no more stacee@ucsc.edu, which i was using for professional correspondence (and also a junk mail dump box) and 2. no more ucsc webspace which means the images for my jrnl layout will no longer show up (and i'm not paying for a paid account again just so i can change the url). i'm on a "leave of absence," i haven't left completely yet. i'm still supposed to have access to my cats.
