adding "cake decorating" back onto my resume
First one I did, with the drawing tip. It's sloppy because I couldn't get my hand to stop shaking.

I used a different tip for the second one, and when I got to the O, I remembered what ribboning (or whatever the real term is) was. It worked nicely for the lettering (except for the whole falling-over part of the V), but not so much for the curvy shape. (The spot with the missing frosting is not my fault. It got dropped or bumped against something before I even got to it.)

I feel like a dork..
...when I post comments in strangers' journals, but you designed the layout I'm using for one of my comms, so I thought I'd take a peek at your journal and noticed this entry. I'm on my way to pastry school myself and thought this was pretty neat. How did you color the frosting? Did you just use food coloring? I have the worst trouble coloring base frosting. I don't know why.

Mind if I add you?

Re: I feel like a dork..
You shouldn't feel like a dork for commenting in strangers' journals, especially when they have commenting from strangers (non-friends) enabled :)
I don't mind at all if you add me. I believe in drama-free friending and/or de-friending :)

I have no formal training, haven't been to pastry school or even taken any classes. I don't even know the correct terminology.

I worked at the local ice cream parlor in high school, and we had this great pastry chef. The cakes he decorated always looked amazing (they tasted great too). I guess I learned from watching him. When he wasn't around and someone wanted something written on a pre-made cake, I'd do it. But that's as much experience I had before this; I'd only written swirly letters before so I'm pretty proud of how I did with the Vox cakes. Pastry school sounds fun though!

Re: I feel like a dork..
Well awesome. I've had a lot of drama the last few times I've defreinded.

That's great, though. I worked at an ice cream shop, too. I miss it, to be honest, but that's probably why I'm going back into pastry.

Lettering with those tips is hard - we always used to teeny one at Carvel for cursive - huge fun!
